This lens comes as part of the RF lens series, specifically developed for use with Canon's full frame EOS R mirrorless camera line up. This includes the:
5-Stop Image Stabiliser
A new feature in many Canon RF lenses is the addition of an image stabiliser. This image stabiliser can offer up to 5-stops of compensation and not only does this combination of technology and high-speed RF communication mean longer shutter speeds and exposures can be used, but when used with Canon's R5 and R6 camera bodies, you will experience even higher levels of image stabilisation; surpassing the best technology in the EF lens range.
Dual Nano USM AF
The use of two Nano USM AF motors has been implemented to drive the lightweight optical elements inside this lens with speed and precision. To ensure high-speed focusing, Canon has designed this lens to be compact and have improved close focusing, as well as to have a floating lens group system that ultimately requires two motors. The first motor is dedicated to the conventional focusing group whilst the second is dedicated to the floating focusing group. The system allows for fast, smooth and near-silent autofocusing making it perfect for discretion when photographing wildlife, for example.
Canon's Mastery of Optics
The 100-500mm features advanced optics and lens coatings which elevate it to the next level of quality. The RF lens mount has been designed to have a short back focus and larger diameter than the EF mount. This means that Canon has been able to achieve a higher quality of image, all whilst constructing a smaller optical makeup. The lens has been equipped with Ultra-Low Dispersion (UD) elements which provide beautiful image quality as well as reducing the appearance of lens aberrations. Image quality and overall sharpness has also been improved thanks to advanced lens coatings such as Air Sphere (ASC).
