What Is White Balance and How Is It Used When Taking Photographs?
When talking about cameras and photography ‘white balance’ refers to the adjustment made to an image to compensate for the color temperature of the light illuminating the scene being captured. All light sourced radiate light at different color temperatures, a camera must be instructed what this temperature is so that the final image contains colours that appear natural to the human eye. The purpose of white balancing is to render the white areas of an images lit by different light sources so that they appear to be truly white, all other colours are then adjusted accordingly, becoming either warmer or cooler to produce an image which is natural in appearance.
