My Top Two Landscape Photography Lenses
Using metadata sorting options in Lightroom I investigated the focal lengths and lenses that I use for landscape photos. The result surprised me!

I’ve reviewed the RRS series 3 leveling head in the past and found it to be an excellent pice of kit if you have a Series 3 Really Right Stuff tripod. The series 2 leveling head takes on a very different design to the series 3, and that means it definitely warrants its own review. A Quick Reminder A leveling head sit between your tripod and your ball head and they allow you to perfectly level the ball head in just a matter of seconds. Doing so without a leveling head can be tricky because you have to manipulate the …
NOTE: Since writing this preview post, I have since written a full review of the Slide and Slide Lite straps. These products were launched in a 5-day Kickstarter campaign that raised an incredible $1.4 million! Now it’s time to take a look at the new versions of the Slide and Slide Lite camera straps that are also being launched with this campaign. Peak Design sent me a black Slide Lite, and an ash grey Slide strap so that I could take a closer look and show you guys the new features. Both straps are available in both of these colours. …
The new version of the Pro Pad updates the design to fit into the current Peak Design aesthetic. It’s a much sleeker looking product, and considerably smaller too. The photos on this page also include comparisons to the older version. As I’ve come to expect from these guys, the product is impeccably made, and the combination of the newer looking Capture Clip and Pro Pad is a smart solution that would be great for wedding photographers that are already dressed up for the occasion. There’s a little less padding on the new Pro Pad, but what padding there is, is …
This new Capture Clip V3 was launched in a 5-day Kickstarter campaign that raised an incredible $1.4million. I’m was lucky to have been given the opportunity to to test a pre-production Capture Clip , so I’m bringing you guys a first hands-on look and comparison to the old version. Kickstarter orders were quickly delivered, and you can now buy the Capture V3 direct from Peak Design. You’ll even get a free gift when you use the links on this page – see note at the bottom of this post. The new Capture Clip V3 has a large number of improvements, …
In this video tutorial I’m going to show you how to add sun rays to your photo using Luminar from Skylum Software, and also explain which images work best for this kind of edit. Luminar has rapidly become my go-to Lightroom and Photoshop editing plugin, and with Luminar 2018 they added some cool new features that will help us with this task. Example Image The first image is the RAW file from my Fuji X100. The second image has gone through the process that is demonstrated in the YouTube video above. Click to view them larger. Whilst sunshine can be …
Not too long ago I reviewed the Everyday Sling 10L from Peak Design, and now they’ve launched a smaller 5L version. This new, smaller version comes in either all black, or the light grey Ash colour of the 10L one that I tested a couple of months ago. At only $100, this Everyday Sling 5L is hitting their lowest price point yet, and I don’t mind saying that they’re onto a winner here, right off the bat. Over the last few years I’ve used and reviewed the entire Everyday lineup from Peak Design, and in the review of the Sling …
Luminar from Skylum Software is one of my absolute favourite photo editing applications. You can use it as a standalone editor, or you can integrate it into Lightroom in a couple of ways. Most people are aware of the regular way in which you can use Luminar as a Lightroom plugin, but in this video tutorial I’m going to show you a second way that gives you MUCH more control over how your images are opened in Luminar, and how the edits are then organized in Lightroom. If you’re a Lumniar user, it’s a quick one, don’t miss it. If …
Really Right Stuff makes leveling heads for their Series 3, Series 2, and Series 4 tripods. In this review, we’ll be taking a look at the Series 3 TA-3 leveling head, which sells for between $195 and $310 depending on the handle options and clamp that you specify. The head weighs 12.2 ounces and with the twist of the locking handle you can tilt it up to 15 degrees in any direction. When you set up your tripod, all you have to do is roughly level it with the leg locks, and then use the leveling head, with built-in bubble …
In the last couple of years, Macphun have emerged as a huge player in the photography software industry, and they seem to be gaining momentum every month. The company started life by creating iOS apps, but then quickly moved into image editing with a number of task-specific plugins for Adobe Lightroom and Photoshop. In the last couple of years however, the company has switched gears and produced two incredibly powerful programs called Aurora HDR and Luminar which operate as standalone programs, or plugins for other pieces of software. In my opinion, Aurora HDR is the best HDR program out there …
