Peak Design has been busy this year, adding the Coyote colorway to its camera strap lineup, followed by a range of bags made from durable, waterproof X-Pac and the launch of the new Outdoor Line of camera bags. The pace continues this week, with the California brand unveiling a collaboration with Carryology that brings a range of new materials and colors to six of its most popular photography products. The Peak Design X Carryology products are available in limited quantities from the Peak Design’s website and its retail stores.

The new collaboration brings new options for the Slide, Slide Lite, Leash, Cuff camera straps, Capture clip, and Mobile Tripod. Peak Design explains that the six new product variations are decorated with black and orange details, along with subtle accents of Carryology’s signature Auxikko pattern—a name coined from the ancient Japanese Kikkō (hexagonal plates built into Samurai body armor) and auxetics, which are materials engineered to grow strong under stress—a pattern that celebrates the balance of traditional design and modern science.

In addition to the new color variation, the camera straps featured in this collaboration have a new edge design. Made with ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene (UHMWPE) fibers incorporated into the edges of the strap webbing, Peak Design says these Carryology collab straps offer significantly higher resistance to cutting, slashing, and on-body theft.

While UHMWPE is not a commonly known term in the photo industry, readers may be better acquainted with the brand name Dyneema. Peak Design isn’t using that particular brand’s product in these camera straps, but it appears to be the same technology.

Peak Design Capture (Carryology Edition)

The Peak Design capture is a handy device that attaches your camera to the shoulder strap of a backpack for immediate access. The Carryology collaboration version of this V3 Capture is functionally identical to the standard Peak Design Capture V3 but comes in bright orange with Carryology’s signature pattern on the back.

Peak Design Cuff (Carryology Edition)

The Peak Design Cuff wrist strap is a lightweight camera strap for small mirrorless cameras. The Carryology version comes with a pair of black Peak Design anchors and incorporates ultra-high molecular weight polyethylene into the strap edges.

Peak Design Leash (Carryology Edition)

The Peak Design Leash camera strap is ideal for day-to-day use with smaller mirrorless cameras or as an ultralight option for larger cameras. The Carryology collaboration version has UHMWPE reinforced edges, four black quick-release Anchors, and a base mount to convert your camera to inverted sling carry mode.

Peak Design Mobile Tripod (Carryology Edition)

The Peak Design Mobile tripod is a valuable gadget for those who use phones for content creation or want a great little desk stand. I use mine all the time on planes to hold my phone while I watch downloaded films. The Carryology collab version is functionally the same as the Peak Design version, with only a subtle hint of Carryology branding.

Peak Design Slide Lite (Carryology Edition)

Over the years, I have exhaustively tested every version of the Peak Design camera straps and found the Slide Lite strap to be the best option for most people. The Carryology Slide Lite adds the slash-proof UHMWPE material to the strap’s edges, elevating the best camera strap on the market to an even higher level. This is the most exciting product in this release, in my opinion.

Peak Design Slide (Carryology Edition)

The Slide camera strap is a broader version is the Slide Lite. Choose this version if you constantly carry large mirrorless camera bodies with heavy lenses all day. Again, this Carryology version includes the updated webbing materials to add durability to an already rugged camera strap.

Press Release

Design and Carryology Debut New Collection of Photography Essentials
Discover upgraded carry gear featuring enhanced durability and new colors

San Francisco, CA (October 29, 2024) – Peak Design, the global leader in mobile accessories and carry solutions, is proud to announce its latest collaboration with long-time partner, Carryology. This special-edition capsule features Peak Design’s top essential photography tools, each product enhanced with aesthetic and functional upgrades for the joint community of dedicated everyday carry enthusiasts who share an eye for material and design.

In this special edition capsule, the two brands honed in on Peak Design’s core photography gear – including the Slide, Slide Lite, Leash, Cuff, Capture Clip, and Mobile Tripod – and brought these designs to the next level with refined colorways and carefully designed, stronger materials that offer users a better way to carry. This special-edition capsule is part of the Carryology Essentials Program, a series of product collabs that Carryology hand-picked to recognize and celebrate best-in-class everyday carry gear.

Engineered to deliver a unique and striking collection of products, the Peak Design X Carryology hardgoods feature a high-contrast black and orange color scheme, augmented by accents of Carryology’s distinctive Auxikko pattern on the Mobile Tripod and Capture Clip. The Auxikko print draws inspiration from the ancient Japanese Kikkō (hexagonal plates in Samurai armor) and auxetics, materials designed to become stronger under stress. This pattern celebrates the balance of elegance and strength, and perfectly complements Peak Design’s commitment to creating beautiful, industry shifting products.

“Since Peak Design’s first Kickstarter, they’ve been shaking things up, always finding new ways to innovate carry. And their smart designs have kept the industry on its toes. So, teaming up with them for a Carryology upgrade? It’s not just exciting—it’s a real privilege,” shares Carryology Editor-in-Chief, Michael Knispel. “There’s something special about taking what already works and making it even better together.”

Accompanying Carryology’s characteristic colors and patterns, Peak Design drew from its newly launched Outdoor Line to incorporate Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE threads) into these special edition camera straps to offer exceptional durability. With this high-strength material, this capsule of camera straps is more resistant to slashing and abrasion than standard Peak Design camera straps. Stay tuned to see the two brand partners put these straps to the test with machetes in the official launch video.

“We’ve been kicking around collaboration ideas with Carryology for nearly as long as we’ve known them,” shared Peak Design CEO/Founder Peter Dering. “There’s no other community on the planet that gets our design ethos as well as these folks do, and now we’re proudly paying homage to that.”

The Peak Design x Carryology Essentials Collab will be available for purchase on www.peakdesign.com and Peak Design retail stores starting on October 29, 2024 with 10-15% price increases from their standard counterparts. About Carryology
Carryology started back in 2009, born from two designers with a passion for the most overlooked category—carry. Bags, wallets, luggage, and all the things we stuff inside them weren’t getting the attention they deserved. Their mission was simple: inspire both the industry and the wider community to carry better. Fast forward to 2024, and Carryology has grown into a global community, a media brand, and a design studio, teaming up with the best brands in the world to drop some of the most coveted limited editions in the carry scene.

But Carryology isn’t just about carrying; it’s about carrying forward. We’re here to spread the culture, to push the boundaries of what’s possible in the Carry Universe. It’s about doing good for every great brand, designer, and Carryologist—and for the world we live in.
