Review: Anker PowerCore Lite to Charge Your Camera

In recent years there has been a shift to allow charging of cameras via the USB port, instead of having to remove the battery and place it into a normal battery charger. As far as I can see, this USB charging feature is rare in current DSLRs, but rapidly becoming a standard feature with newer mirrorless cameras. With mirrorless on an unstoppable rise, it won’t be long before USB charging of cameras is expected in all modern releases. As it turns out, this new feature is particularly useful because most mirrorless camera batteries do not last as long as the …

Heroclip – The Handy Tripod and Camera Bag Accessory

I stumbled upon the Heroclip through an online advert and was immediately intrigued. I usually have a carabiner on my camera bag anyway, but it appeared as though this ingenious product added even more functionality for very little added weight and bulk. After exchanging a quick email with the company, they sent a pair over for me to test and review them from a photographer’s perspective. The photos do most of the explaining, but essentially the Heroclip is a traditional carabiner with an added rotating hook built into it. You can use it just like a normal accessory carabiner (not …

Whatever Happened to Mirrorless Miniaturization?

As consumers, we are entering a period of radical change in the photography industry with the introduction of so many new full-frame mirrorless cameras and lenses. Sony had the place to themselves for a while, but with Nikon and Canon throwing their hats in the ring over the past couple of months, it’s clear that we are about to enter a mirrorless battle royale. At Photokina 2018, more big news as the L-Mount Alliance was announced between Leica, Sigma and Panasonic. The Whistler Valley, home to the world-famous ski resort of Whistler Blackcomb, has been the source of much of my inspiration. This year I worked with Whistler Blackcomb on a short film about the evolution of my career and the choices that have led me down the path to becoming a professional photographer. For those that don’t know, the journey actually started with me as an aerospace engineer in England. I’m incredibly proud to have been a part of this project and I hope it …

Skylum Software Tease Luminar Update With Lightroom-Style Library Features

There’s no doubt that Skylum Software’s Luminar is one of the most powerful and popular Lightroom alternatives when it comes to actually editing photos. Whilst I test a great many applications so that I am knowledgeable for my work on Shutter Muse, Luminar is the only one that seems regular usage outside of my usual Lightroom and Photoshop routines. The major thing that has been lacking from Luminar is some form of asset management. Continuous updates to Luminar over the last couple of years have brought the editing side of things up to a very high standard, but for many …
